I’m sure you’re well aware of the fact that food items will spoil or go bad after a certain amount of time has passed.
But did you know honey won’t spoil or otherwise “go bad”?
Well, it won’t. Ever.
Numerous containers of honey that were literally thousands of years old have been uncovered during archaeological digs.
Close inspection and intensive testing revealed that every ounce of that ancient honey was still as “fresh” and completely edible as it was on the day it was placed in those containers!
Scientists have several theories as to why honey is such a timeless and durable food item, and you can read all about them on this page of the Smithsonian website.
Bottom line: If you happen to be rummaging through your cabinets and find an old jar of honey, rest assured that it’s still in perfect condition and completely safe to eat as long as it hasn’t been contaminated by some foreign substance.
