My dad and mom used to love to sit and watch the little birds dine at the feeders they had placed outside their home. And truth be told, I sort of enjoy watching them myself.

Our world is blessed with countless species of colorful creatures, and our feathered friends are surely leading the way.

As you probably know, Florida is a pretty large state in terms of land area.

In fact, at 65,758 square miles, the Sunshine State is actually larger than over half of the other 49 US states.

But truth be told, as large as it is, the entire land mass of Florida is just barely sticking its “head” above the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

As a youngster I became fascinated with the world of electronics after watching my dad pull the back off our old black & white floor-model TV set and remove a vacuum tube that wasn’t glowing, suspecting that that “dead” tube was the reason the TV had stopped working.

I tagged along as he took that tube to our local TV repair shop to have it tested. Sure enough, it was deader than 4 o’clock in the middle of the Sahara desert.  [Read more…]

Well, as it always does, spring has arrived to mark the end of another long winter. While most of the trees in my neck of the woods have yet to show any spring buds, a few here and there are already in full bloom.

The beautiful crocuses always get the ball rolling in late February by popping up through the snow to give us a preview of what the coming spring will bring, but for me it’s the greening of the grass in mid-March that’s the surest sign that spring is about ready to pop up on the calendar.  [Read more…]

If you own property with trees on it you probably hate seeing one of them get so badly damaged that it has to be taken down.

I’ve been in the unfortunate situation of having to remove several trees that were severely damaged by storms, including this one that’ll have to come down real soon.

Of course when you cut a tree down you’re always left with an unsightly stump. You could always pay a pro big bucks to remove that stump for you or even rent a stump grinder and remove it yourself, but there’s much cheaper way to get rid of it.  [Read more…]
