These days taking a road trip of several hundred miles is no big deal. Simply hit the nearest Interstate highway and you’re on your way.

But back in the early days of automobile travel things weren’t so simple. There were no Interstates connecting distant cities and towns and there were no exits lined with gas stations and fast food restaurants every few miles.

Back in the day, embarking on a long road trip wasn’t for the faint of heart. Today we take motor travel for granted but the folks who decided to hit the road way back when sure didn’t.  [Read more…]

That line from that song has always resonated with me, because it’s so true.

Our Creator gave each and every one of us the ability to think for ourselves and make our own choices as we live out our lives here on planet Earth. Of course He also gave us the ultimate guidebook to consult as we evaluate the range of choices before us, but we are still completely free to ultimately make our own choices as we see fit.  [Read more…]

If you were around during the 1960s you surely know “The Andy Griffith Show” was one of the most popular series on television during most of that decade.

This timeless production showcased life in small-town America in a humorous, yet respectful way, and the TV audience responded by keeping it in the “Top Ten” during its entire eight season run.

In a previous post I wrote about the greatest gift I ever received from my dad.

Today, I’d like to expand on that theme a bit.

I have learned over the years that most people fall into one of three categories:

1 – Those who hate to read and never read anything that isn’t absolutely required.

2 – Those who don’t mind reading but only do it when they aren’t preoccupied with other things.

3 – Those who absolutely love to read and spend every free moment with a book in their hands.  [Read more…]

If you’re anything like me you enjoy a good road trip. There’s really nothing like hopping in your car and taking off for a trip to (and through) places you’ve never been before.

I really enjoy simple day trips, spending the morning driving through beautiful countryside and enjoying spectacular scenery, then spending the afternoon driving back via a different route. But as you’ll see in the short video below, multi-day drives can be nice as well.  [Read more…]
