Question from Kevin:  I read something the other day that said Greenland is the largest island in the world.

But Australia is a lot bigger than Greenland, right? Something doesn’t add up.  [Read more…]

Question from Tammy: I was visiting my mom the other evening and we decided to sit on her back porch for a while.

We both sat down in metal chairs. Her chair had a cushion on it, but mine didn’t.

My chair was so cold that I couldn’t stand it so I got up and switched to a wooden chair.

I noticed right away that the wooden chair was a lot warmer than the metal one even though both chairs were sitting side by side in the shade.

That got me curious about why the metal chair was so much cooler than the wooden one. Can you explain it?  [Read more…]

I know my car has depreciated some over the years but my insurance premiums are higher now than they were when the car was brand new.

That makes no sense to me.

It seems like the premiums should decrease along with the value of the car since the insurance company would have to pay out less as the car gets older.

Why didn’t my premium go down along with the value of the car?  [Read more…]

Question from Melissa:  Several of my friends and I were talking about all the snow we received this year in upstate New York when someone said they can remember a time when there was snow on the ground in all 50 states at the same time.

None of us believed him when he said that. Is it true? That just doesn’t seem possible.  [Read more…]
