Living (and loving) Life
“People who wonder whether the glass is half empty or half full miss the point. The glass is refillable.“
-–Simon Sinek
We all know how easy it is to feel overwhelmed at times.
Like it or not, life is tough and often unfair. It’s how we handle the setbacks and bad situations that arise that chart the courses of our futures.
On the darkest of days we always have a choice between sitting in the shadows or walking towards the light. I know that walk can be difficult at times, but taking the first step often makes the ones that come next a lot easier.
Regardless of where we are right now, we have been given three gifts from the Creator:
1 – The gift of another day.
2 – The gift of another opportunity to make the best of whatever situation we might find ourselves in at the moment.
3 – The gift of the opportunity to learn from our failures, and try again.
Some of the most successful people ever to live on this planet managed to overcome some pretty dire circumstances and climb out of some pretty deep holes in order to achieve the great successes they eventually enjoyed.
Plenty of others were blessed to start their lives high on a hill simply because they were born into wealthy families, only to fall into despair and poverty later in life due to unfortunate circumstances and/or bad choices.
Whether we end up achieving our goals and being happy in life will depend more on how we view the half-filled glass than from where we must start the next leg of our journey.
Whatever our age and the pasts we’ve left behind, the future begins right now.
The past is the past. There’s no way to go back and change it in order to make better decisions or right past wrongs.
But the future is ours to make if only we’ll take that first step out of the darkness and walk towards the light.
Even if we see the glass as half-empty we can strive every day to do whatever it will take to fill it back up to the brim.
The late physicist Albert Einstein is widely considered to be one of the most intelligent and most successful people who ever lived, yet he too had great obstacles to overcome. And overcome them he did, thanks to his ability to view the half-empty glass as a challenge and his desire to do whatever he had to do to fill it.
