If you’re like most people you occasionally hear a song come on the radio that brings back fond memories of your childhood.
For me, one of those treasured songs is “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Tokens.
Every time I hear this song I can feel my mood lift a bit. I don’t really know why and I can’t even begin to explain it, but it does.
The history of The Lion Sleeps Tonight is quite interesting in its own right, but the song’s distinctive melody and rather puzzling lyrics are what originally caught my young ear so many years ago.
The skating rink my family enjoyed visiting back then had a jukebox and this was one of the most frequently played songs on it. For some reason it always seemed like the perfect song to skate to.
I realize many of the younger folks among us have probably never heard this iconic song, so I’ll share it below. It might also bring back some good memories for those of us who are a bit older and remember hearing it in our youth.
