Do you have a door, a cabinet or most anything else that has a sticky lock? You know, a lock that won’t let you insert the key smoothly (or at all)?

If you’re like most folks the answer is probably yes.

The first thing that usually pops into someone’s mind when this situation arises is “I’ll give it a good shot of WD-40”.

Well, I’ll admit that WD-40 is awesome and it certainly has tons of great uses, but fixing a sticky lock isn’t one of them.

The real secret to fixing virtually any sticky lock is to give it a good dose of graphite.

Why graphite instead of WD-40? Two reasons:

1 – Unlike WD-40 (or any type of oil for that matter), graphite doesn’t create a gooey, greasy mess on both the outside and inside of your door.

2 – The repair you make with graphite will last longer than one you make with WD-40.

My dad taught me to use graphite to fix sticky locks when I was knee high to a kneeling cricket and that advice has never let me down.

A small tube of graphite will only set you back a few bucks. You can find it at Walmart or most any local home improvement store, or if you prefer to ship online, at Amazon.  (#ad)

To finish up, here’s a great, but really short video showing exactly how to use graphite to quickly and easily “unstick” a sticky lock.
