I recently received an email from a man who was having difficulty with the remote control to his garage door. In a nutshell, the remote would only operate the door if his car was sitting directly in front of the garage.

My first thought was the battery in the remote was probably weak and needed to be replaced, but he told me he had already tried changing the battery and it didn’t help.

I did a quick Google search regarding this issue and found that Scott from Everyday Home Repairs had produced a video dealing with this very issue.

Scott’s first suggestion in the video was the same as mine: replace the battery in the remote. But as I mentioned above, the gentleman had already tried that without success.

Scott’s second suggestion worked like a charm though. He simply added a few inches of wire to the opener’s antenna!

Check out Scott’s video below to see how this is done. As you will see, it’s quite easy once you know what to do.

Pretty simple, right?

By the way, if you have lost the remote to your garage door opener and the opener is too old to work with any of the replacement remotes that are on the market today, this post shows how I solved that very issue with my own 1970’s era opener for about 20 bucks.
