Like most people you’re probably quite diligent when it comes to your safety and the safety of your loved ones, as well you should be.
And a huge part of an effective safety routine is making sure the foods you eat and serve to others are safe to eat.
But with that being said, did you know you might well be throwing perfectly safe (and expensive) food items in the trash simply because of an arbitrary “expiration date”?
Truth be told, the dates printed on many food packages don’t indicate that the food is spoiled or dangerous. In fact, several categories of food items are still safe to eat years after the date that’s printed on the box or can have passed.
Of course there are some types of foods that really shouldn’t be used after the printed expiration date due to the possible existence of dangerous bacteria. The key to keeping you and your family safe is knowing which types of foods can safely be consumed after the product has officially “expired” – and which ones can’t.
The short video below explains quite well what those printed expiration dates really mean (there are actually two types of expiration dates which mean two very different things).
It also explains which types of foods are safe to eat after the printed date and which ones are not. Check it out. It just might help you save some cash on today’s sky-high food bills.
Great info, right?
Did you know vacuum sealing many types of food items can great extend their safe storage times? And you can easily do it yourself. (#ad)
