Humans have been wanting to fly ever since they first saw birds flittering hither and yon through the air. Many have tried and failed at building all manner of potential aircraft over the centuries.
Finally, French brothers Joseph-Michel Montgolfier and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier teamed up to invent the first successful hot air balloon. And years later, Orville and Wilbur Wright designed, built and flew the first successful airplane.
Just a few short decades later, jet aircraft and rocket-propelled vehicles would send humans flying to amazing heights at incredible speeds, up to and including several visits to the moon.
The 60’s era cartoon “The Jetsons” had people flying here and there in their own personal aircraft, something that seemed for so long to be little more than science fiction. But thanks to recent innovations the dream of affordable personal flying vehicles being built and sold in large numbers could be just about to come true.
