Time-lapse video: (Literal) desert storm over Tucson

When most people think of Tucson, Arizona, the climate of the desert southwest comes to mind – very hot and very dry weather with very little rain to speak of. And of course they are right.

In fact, Tucson only receives a whopping total of 11 inches of rain per year on average. Some American cities get that much or more during a single rain event. 

In short, if you visit Tucson you probably won’t be needing one of these.

But as dry as Tucson is, every now and then it does get a powerful storm just like the ones you probably get in your neck of the woods.

Storm chaser Lori Grace spent three years chasing those rare Tucson storms and documenting them with thousands of photos. She then used those photos to create a short, but fascinating time-lapse video showing both the beauty and the fury of the storms as they passed over the normally arid Tucson area.
