Video: How the beautiful (and massive) Gateway Arch was built

The beautiful (and massive) Gateway Arch has been welcoming visitors to St. Louis for generations and most of those visitors probably never even gave a thought to how it was built.

Unlike skyscrapers and other incredibly tall objects, the Arch would have to be built in two sections, each of which leaned well past vertical – and then meet at the top with perfect precision. 

In other words, everything had to be perfectly engineered, constructed and aligned with zero room for error.

The short video below shows how the Arch was designed and constructed as well as how workers managed to get the last section at the top to fit when a spacing issue arose.
