At roughly 2,200 miles in length, the Appalachian Trail is the longest hiking-only foot path in the world.
Thousands of adventurous souls take to the trail every year, but only a relative few have the stamina, will and desire to make the hike all the way from the AT’s trailhead at Springer Mountain in Georgia to its end point at Mount Katahdin in Maine (or vice-versa).
Most of the “thru-hikers” that do make it all the way from start to finish will tell you the hike is difficult, dangerous and exhausting, but the views and the overall experience make it all worth it.
A thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail isn’t in the cards for me, but I have hiked small portions of it in the past. The short video below features some of the highlights that one thru-hiker was able to enjoy (and film) along his months-long AT journey from Georgia to Maine. And I can tell you that some of the scenery is spectacular.
Watch, and enjoy…
How about you? Would you consider taking off for a months-long thru-hike of the world’s longest hiking-only foot path? If so, this would probably come in handy. (#ad)
