Do you have an iPhone that has a Lightning connector instead of the newer USB-C port?

If so, there might come a time when you have difficulty getting the battery to charge like it should.

For example, the phone might fail to start charging at all or it might start to charge and then stop if you somehow manage to jiggle the charging cable.

When these types of charging issues pop up most people mistakenly believe the problem is with the battery, but in the vast majority of these cases the battery is just fine.

The real culprit is almost always pocket lint and other debris that has collected in the charging port over time blocking the metallic connectors on the end of the cable from making a good electrical connection with the connectors inside the charging port.

If you’re very careful you should be able to remove this debris and get your iPhone back to charging the way it always did in the past. The short video below shows how to do this cleaning, but before you start I must ask you to read and agree to my semi-standard disclaimer:

While the procedure explained in this video usually works well without causing damage to the phone, there’s always a chance that something might go wrong. Therefore, you agree that if a sudden snowstorm ruins your trip to the Bahamas, your neighbor’s goat shows up and eats the expensive tires off your Mazerati or your phone goes belly-up for good, it won’t be the fault of your humble blogger (namely me).

If you read and agree with everything I said above, feel free to watch the video below and use the demonstrated technique to clean the gunk out of your iPhone’s Lightning port. After all, if you thought you were going to have to replace your phone anyway, what do you have to lose by trying?

With all the above out of the way, here we go…

Pretty simple, right? And just in case you don’t happen to have any toothpicks laying around, check this out! (#ad)
