“If we could sell our experiences for what they cost us, we’d all be millionaires.”
If someone ever tells you they have never made a mistake, you can rest assured that they are either incredibly naive or incredibly dishonest.
Truth be told, each and every one of us will make a mistake every now and then. Luckily, most of those mistakes will be minor, but one or two could well be life-changing.
Regardless of how minor or how serious our mistakes may be turn out to be, they will always give us a very valuable gift…
Virtually every young child will eventually touch something hot and get burned. That’s just a by-product of being a child. And it’s a learning experience.
But here’s the thing…
While that’s a very painful lesson to learn, it likely will save the child a LOT of additional pain over the course of their lifetime. That is the incredible value of experience.
While parents can (and should) teach their children not to touch hot things, that little “life tip” won’t be nearly as effective as one touch of a hot stove.
And guess what? Learning experiences aren’t limited to just children. Anyone, at any age is capable of making mistakes, but luckily we will never be too old to learn from them.
Bottom line: The only thing worse than making a big mistake is failing to take the inherent lesson from it. As they say, “You live and learn.” And that’s a very good thing.
To finish up, here’s a very short video featuring one woman’s story about how she finally managed to learn an important lesson from a mistake she kept making over and over again.
