Question from Betty: I’m a dog lover, and I love the really big dogs the most.
My cousin has an English Mastiff that’s the biggest dog I’ve ever personally seen, but I know there are bigger dog breeds.
Can you tell me what was the tallest dog that ever lived?
Answer: That’s a very interesting question, Betty.
Truth be told, I’m not sure whether you’re asking which breed was the tallest or which specific dog holds that record.
Either way, the answer is Zeus, a massive Great Dane that measured over 3 and a half feet tall when standing on all four legs and over 7 and a quarter feet when standing up on his two hind legs!
In all the years that Guinness has been awarding the world record for the tallest dog, the winner has always been either a Great Dane or an Irish Wolfhound. No dog of any other breed has ever held the title.
So there’s your answer, Betty! Thanks again for asking!
To finish up, here’s a short video featuring 10 of the tallest dogs that ever lived, including the largest of them all, Zeus. Check it out!
