“How did it get so late so soon?”
-–Dr. Seuss
Do you remember how long it took your birthdays to come around each year when you were a child? If your childhood was like mine it probably seemed like the next birthday would never arrive.
But something likely changed as you got older. Instead of your birthdays taking their sweet time in making their arrival, they began coming in bunches. For me, it seems like I now have about three birthdays per year!
If you go strictly by the clock and calendar the passage of time is linear. Every day has 24 hours and every year has 365 days. But in the context of one’s lifetime the passage of time seems to accelerate at an ever-increasing pace as we age.
To the youngsters among us I would say this…
Don’t try to hurry the clock. Time will pass quickly enough as it is. There’s no need to rush it, especially considering the fact that you are living the most carefree portion of life right now.
And to those who are older (myself included)…
Take the time to enjoy every day as it comes. None of us are promised tomorrow so it makes sense to greet every day as if it might be our last.
Life is a precious gift from our Creator so lets enjoy every new day to the max. Forget about the calendar because time will move forward at its own pace regardless of what we do.
