Have you ever provided some type of assistance to someone who was truly in need?
Someone you didn’t even know, and would likely never even see again?
I’ll bet it felt good, didn’t it?
Our world is full of people who are down on their luck and in need of some kind of help.
Yes, I’m well aware that many of those folks are in the predicaments they’re in due to their own poor choices.
But then again a poor choice in the Garden of Eden is what started humankind down the road of hardship and suffering that most all of us must endure at some point in our lives.
Simply put, perfection doesn’t exist anywhere in the human experience.
Without exception, we all fail from time to time. And we all need a little help on occasion – even if we never even realize it.
That means none of us are in a position to judge others. That right belongs to God, and to Him alone.
Truth be told, being in a position to help someone doesn’t require deep pockets and a huge bank account. In fact, assistance that’s needed isn’t always in the form of cash at all.
Much needed help comes in many forms…
Yes, sometimes it might be a few spare coins to help someone buy their next meal.
Other times it might be a ride to the grocery store or the doctor’s office.
And it’s often as simple as a warm smile and a word of encouragement to help someone get through an extra tough day.
As I said above, I try my best not to judge when I see someone who is in need of some kind of help.
I haven’t walked in that person’s shoes, and I don’t know their story.
Whenever possible, we can all try to do what we can to help.
Yes, there will be times when we’ll be taken for suckers. But there are plenty of people out there who are genuinely in need of help through no fault of their own.
I’m not so sure of my ability to always be able to tell the worthy from the scoundrels. All I know is when I’m able to help someone in some small way, it lifts my day and puts a smile on my face.
Not because it makes me feel superior to the person I helped, because I’m not. Rather, it’s because I’ve received much-needed help myself in the past and I know how much better I felt after having a major burden lifted from my shoulders.
I believe we can all do a small part to make the world a better place if we take the opportunity to help someone in need whenever the opportunity arise.
And for what it’s worth, I also believe smiling is a two way street. For me, it’s impossible not to feel better when some little thing I do puts a smile on someone’s face who desperately needed one.
Everything I said above brings me to today’s short, but inspiring video.
This is actually a TV commercial for a Thai insurance company, but you’d never know it if they hadn’t put the short tagline on the end of the video.
This is without a doubt one of the most uplifting and inspiring “commercials” I have ever seen. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
