When we look up into the night sky and see the full moon glowing like a huge ball amongst the stars, it’s easy to imagine that our closest heavenly body must be quite large.
Well, truth be told, it is. The diameter of the moon is 1/4 the diameter of Earth, making it rather large indeed.
But here’s a fun fact for you that might be somewhat hard to believe, but it’s true…
The smallest continent on our planet is actually wider than the entire moon when measured east to west.
Of course the entire mass of the moon far exceeds the mass of the Australian continent since the moon is a ball-like sphere, but when measured side to side Australia is quite a bit wider.
