I’ll never forget the first time I heard Joe Diffie sing.
It was close to midnight on a hot summer Sunday night as I was driving down a lonely stretch of I-20 between Columbia, South Carolina and Augusta, Georgia.
I was stationed at Augusta’s Fort Gordon Army base at the time and I was on my way back to Augusta after spending the weekend “back home” in Virginia.
If you’re a long-time Country Music fan you’re likely well familiar with the work of the late, great Glen Campbell.
After all, his incredible voice has been gracing the airwaves of Country radio for decades.
But what you might not know about Glen is that he was a true master of the guitar.

Marty himself is a true master of both the guitar and mandolin and Superlative Kenny Vaughn is one of the finest guitarists on the planet.
If you’ve never seen these guys in concert you’re really missing out.

Living (and loving) Life
Ricky Skaggs is best known a successful Country music performer, but like many Country greats he actually got his start in the Bluegrass genre.
And like most of those Bluegrass-turned-Country stars, he first began making great music at a very young age.
I was checking out some videos on YouTube last night and stumbled across this gem featuring a 7 year old Ricky showing off his musical chops with none other than Bluegrass legends Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs.
Country Music boasts a long line of legendary performers who helped shape and define the genre.
It all started way back in the 1920s with The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers and a handful of other artists that helped create what would eventually become one of the most successful industries the world has ever known.
The style of music that falls under the Country umbrella changes a bit with each generation, but every new generation includes a small handful of performers who end up becoming true legends and icons of the genre by the time they finally put down their mics for good.
And one of the most legendary Country performers of all time will always be the great Loretta Lynn. [Read more…]
