I recently featured this video of an 11 year old Sierra Hull treating the Grand Ole Opry to some pretty amazing mandolin skills.
Well, Sierra isn’t the only pre-teen to ever grace the stage of the Opry. A young man by the name of Trey Hensley also performed there at the age of 11.
Trey started learning how to play guitar at a very young age, and he quickly mastered the instrument. Before long he had his own Bluegrass band, and the rest is history.
Trey has performed at venues small and large the world over and with some of biggest stars in the worlds of Bluegrass and Country music. In 2023 he received the IBMA’s Guitar Player of the Year award. He was also twice nominated for Grammys, the second of which he won in 2025.
The video below features young Trey Hensley picking and singing the timeless Carter Family classic “Jimmy Brown the Newsboy“, accompanied by music legends Marty Stuart and Earl Scruggs.
