Q&A: I’m familiar with ‘Closed Captioning’. Is there such a thing as ‘Open Captioning’?

Living (and loving) Life

Question from Lisa:  I was eating dinner at a restaurant the other day and they were showing a ball game on a wall-mounted TV.

The game was being broadcast with Closed Captioning on.

That got me to to wondering if there’s such a thing as “Open Captioning”. Is there?  [Read more…]

Living (and loving) Life

Question from Jack:  I was researching an idea I had for generating my own electric power when I saw something that piqued my interest.

In the video it appeared that the machine worked like he said it would, but I’m not convinced that it’s real. Do you think it could be?  [Read more…]

So what’s up with that? Was life in those times so difficult that people just didn’t feel happy enough to smile?  [Read more…]

Question from Carla:  My husband just bought a roll of electrical wire at Lowes for a remodeling job we’re doing on our home, and it cost an arm and a leg.

That got me to wondering why house wiring is made out of copper instead of aluminum even though aluminum would probably be a lot cheaper than copper?  [Read more…]

Living (and loving) Life

Question from Judy:  I bought a new car back in 2018 and it’s been insured by the same company all this time.

That makes no sense to me.

It seems like the premiums should decrease along with the value of the car since the insurance company would have to pay out less as the car gets older.

Why didn’t my premium go down along with the value of the car?  [Read more…]
