Video: ‘Mr. Spaceman’ by Marty Stuart & The Fabulous Superlatives

Back in September 1966 a whimsical tune from The Byrds hit the airwaves. It was titled “Mr. Spaceman” and it was quite different from most of the popular songs of the day.

In a nutshell, Mr. Spaceman is the tale of extra-terrestrial visitors paying nightly visits to the singer’s local neighborhood.

But instead of the fellow being terrified of the aliens, he asks for a ride in their spaceship. Sadly, that request isn’t granted but the song is up-beat and leaves you feeling better none-the-less.  [Read more…]

A while back I shared this video featuring the Austrian duo Sensitive Souls singing the Carter Family classic “Wildwood Flower”.

That performance really resonated with lots of folks, and it’s easy to understand why.

Janine and Andi have amazing voices and they did an outstanding job on one of the most beautiful songs ever written, especially considering the fact that English isn’t their native language.  [Read more…]

Almost a century ago The Carter Family recorded “Wildwood Flower”, one of the first recorded songs to become famous the world over.

Generation after generation of aspiring guitar players have studied the masterful “picking” of Wildwood Flower by Maybelle Carter, and it has been performed by literally thousands of musicians over the years since that original recording was released.  [Read more…]

It’s no secret that the world of Bluegrass music is home to many of the world’s best musicians.

And if you’ve been following me on social media and via this blog for any length of time you know that I really enjoy fantastic Bluegrass instrumentals.

Well, today’s video features John and Jeremy from Acoustic Shoppe in Springfield, Missouri performing a fantastic instrumental rendition of “Shenandoah Valley Breakdown”.
