Well, the requests for more music by The Petersen Family Bluegrass Band just keep rolling in.

I had no idea when I first featured them on my blog just how popular they would turn out to be.

In today’s video, Ellen and her incredibly talented siblings give a masterful performance of the Linda Ronstadt classic “High Sierra”.

A while back I featured this fantastic instrumental performance of “Sultans of Swing” by Chelsea and Grace Constable, two ultra-talented sisters from nearby Kingsport, Tennessee.

My dad loved playing his guitar and singing, and I have many wonderful memories of him performing for an audience of one.

Although he mostly played classic country and gospel, he could play just about anything he heard on the radio.

One of his absolute favorites was “Wildwood Flower” by the Carter Family.

Back in September 1966 a whimsical tune from The Byrds hit the airwaves. It was titled “Mr. Spaceman” and it was quite different from most of the popular songs of the day.

In a nutshell, Mr. Spaceman is the tale of extra-terrestrial visitors paying nightly visits to the singer’s local neighborhood.

But instead of the fellow being terrified of the aliens, he asks for a ride in their spaceship. Sadly, that request isn’t granted but the song is up-beat and leaves you feeling better none-the-less.  [Read more…]
