When we look up into the night sky and see the full moon glowing like a huge ball amongst the stars, it’s easy to imagine that our closest heavenly body must be quite large.

Well, truth be told, it is. The diameter of the moon is 1/4 the diameter of Earth, making it rather large indeed.

A little over a year ago I shared this short video that my friend Jim Hayes created while visiting Backbone Rock in rural Johnson County, Tennessee.

That video prompted a bunch of questions and comments because “the rock” is such a fascinating natural feature. It also happens to be located just a few miles from my home.

He just had a knack for taking a topic that everyone thought they knew inside and out and adding a completely new twist to it.

Over the course of his long and distinguished career, Mr. Harvey entertained the masses with numerous stories that left one thinking “How did I not know that?”

As children we were taught that the mighty Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, with it’s peak reaching higher above sea level than all the other peaks on our planet.

Climbing to the summit of Everest is a lifelong dream and ultimate challenge for many. After all, only a select few will ever be able to say they “climbed to the top of the world”.
