If you’re a fan of Bluegrass music you’re no doubt familiar with Sierra Hull, a supremely talented musician who began wowing audiences at a very young age as a musical child prodigy.

Although Sierra is famous for her mastery of the mandolin, like most other Bluegrass “pickers” she actually plays multiple instruments.

Have you ever heard the term “Fosbury Flop”? If you aren’t into the world of “Track & Field” sports the answer is probably no.

But truth be told, this one innovation probably changed its sport more than any other in human history.

When American athlete Dick Fosbury took his odd-looking High Jump technique to the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, the spectators and other athletes laughed at him as he pulled off his first couple of wildly unique jumps.

But they soon stopped laughing after it became clear that he had taken the gold medal in the event.  [Read more…]

Back in pre-Internet days if you needed to research something you probably headed to the library and pored through stacks of encyclopedias, magazines and various other printed materials looking for the info you needed.

Needless to say, doing research that “old-fashioned” way was quite tedious and time-consuming.

But in today’s connected world we can research most any topic or current event with just a quick Google search.

Video: Hank Williams, Sr. singing the timeless gospel classic “Calling You”

As I mentioned in these posts, Country Music icon Hank Williams, Sr. wrote and and performed some of the most beloved and influential gospel songs of all time before he passed away at the young age of 29.

Hank’s legacy extends far beyond the world of Country Music, the genre for which he is best known. His work had a profound and enduring impact on gospel as well.

He performed dozens of cherished old hymns and gospel songs over the course of his short life, and today I’m featuring the timeless classic “Calling You”, one of my all-time favorite Hank Williams inspirational works.  [Read more…]
