One of my favorite singers in my younger years was a gentleman by the name of Dan Seals.

Although Dan’s music transitioned through several different genres over the course of his career, it was always upbeat and, well…just plain good.

His songs tend to tell stories that resonate with most every listener and his smooth delivery brings every word to life.

Sadly, Dan’s life and career were cut short when he passed away at 61 after a two-year bout with cancer, but his music will live on in the hearts and minds of his many fans.

As you surely know, our amazing planet has some truly incredible natural geological features.

One of the most beautiful and intriguing features in all the world is the iconic “Great Blue Hole” located just off the coast of Belize.

This almost perfectly round hole is incredibly large. In fact, its diameter at the mouth is a whopping 1,043 feet and it’s 407 feet deep!

It’s no secret that Utah’s Arches National Park is home to some of the most beautiful and interesting natural features on our entire planet. It also happens to be a photographer’s paradise.

If you do a web search for the term “Arches National Park” you’ll find thousands of photos and videos showcasing the natural beauty to be found there, but of all the ones I have seen, I love the video I’ve featured below the most.

Video: A short (and hopefully interesting) history of AM/FM radio

As a youngster I became fascinated with what was then a very simple hand-held AM “transistor radio”. That tiny radio didn’t even have an FM band, but it was magic to this young boy nonetheless.

Most radios back then were AM only and the few cars that even had radios in them were AM only as well.

When I was somewhere around 11 or 12 years old I removed an AM radio from a junked car and kept it on a table beside my bed. I would lay awake at night listening to WLS Radio out of Chicago, marveling at how I could listen to a radio station that was roughly 600 miles away from my home in Virginia.  [Read more…]

Did you know lobster was once considered a “poor man’s food”?

Do you crave lobster but consider it a rare treat due to its high cost?

Well, you were obviously born in the wrong century!

According to History.com and other reputable sources, when the Europeans first came to the new world lobsters were so plentiful (and therefore cheap) they were routinely fed to prisoners, apprentices, slaves and children.

The rich and powerful actually shunned lobster because it had a reputation for being “food for the poor”.
